Harry Potter has just moved into a new apartment with his family and
has discovered that a troll has taken over the body of his sister and now must
do whatever he can to stop the evil trolls from destroying the Earth.
Overall: Considering how J.K. Rowling’s invention of “Harry Potter” has done, it is kind of funny to look back now at characters named Harry Potter. Talk about potential plagiarism...but in this film, you have a hero named “Harry Potter” who gets ignored by his family so he decides to learn witchcraft and while doing so finds a way to help save humanity! And the evil creature was named "Mallory" (malfoy?) Yeah JK Rowling wasn’t that desperate, eh? How broke was she? The film debuted in 1986 and her first book was dreamt of in 1990 and purchased by publishers in 1996. Despite all this, all plagiarism claims have previously been based on other works, all of which proved faulty. Fact is, this film predated her stuff by 4 years. You tell me...coincidence or not? Anyway, the movie is better known for the cast than it’s terrible story. Starring a very young Julia Louise Dreyfuss from “Seinfeld,” Former Congressmen Sonny Bono and “WKRP’s in Cincinnati’s” Gary Sandy, the film has a decent cast. And yet the story of a troll going apartment to apartment is silly…hell, explain to me why he picks that exact apartment…why he shows up the very day the new family moves in and already the little girl is just wandering around the building un-watched by her family. Sonny Bono is a swinger? And the cinematography of the plants taking over the house was right out of the Godzilla films. Hey, it’s not as bad as part 2 but they could have done more with this film - dump the old lady and the plot about her being the ex-wife of the troll…make the apartment more important as if it was the gateway to hell or some stuff, and make the trolls scarier. As it is it looks like the people are happy being turned into trolls. Comparison: Sonny & Cher show meets Return of the Jedi |
