The Heirloom/Zhaibian (2005)

Summary: James has inherited a house and moved himself and his girlfriend into it. They get visited early on by their friends, Cheng and Li-Chen but soon they all discover that the house may not be a healthy place to live. Seems that everyone but James, is having problems with it...and soon their friends have a very unusual fascination with the house. But don’t be too concerned...they won’t leave the house’s grasp alive...question is...will anyone?

Overall: The film seems to struggle to get to the point for the first 30-45 minutes. Once the mysterious “aunt” shows up, the film starts to pick up pace. Some new and interesting ideas here and that keeps the story for getting mundane. Not the scariest of movies but had some nice ideas to keep you excited. Oh and as for the ending and all...it’s actually got a taboo-ish ending. Not for the faint of heart once you realize what James is truly trying to do and frankly, it’s for the best. But again...think about what he’s up to and you’ll be like “oh damn...”
