Sam Staziak is a scanner with a conscience, oh yeah and the will to be a good cop. His dad just couldn’t handle being without Ephemerol and so Sam is on it consistently. But there a new evil running through the city and it is turning ordinary citizens into cop killers. The people don’t even know why they are shooting cops, because they go comatose afterward. The police need help and it just happens that Sam adopted father is the police captain and he suggests a bit of the old scanning on these poor unfortunate people. But scanning one person isn’t enough and soon Sam is fighting both the evil in the city and his own mental demons. Each day without Ephemerol threatens his life and yet with it, more cops could die putting even more people at risk. When Sam finds out that the evil is Dr. Glock, whom Sam’s adopted dad shot in the head years back, he knows this battle will be to the death.
Overall: The film is a very interesting twist in the series, taking the usual scanner problems and making them useful in society. Actually, part 3 flirted with this idea of a scanner police force for the good of society. Here we have that exact test. Daniel Quinn does a nice job as Sam and the film includes a few familiar character actors so I’m sure you’ll have recognized them. Comparison: Zapper meets Police Academy |
