Interview with Nancy Soulliard

- Nancy Soulliard has appeared in "The Creek". Anyone looking for more info on Nancy, can visit her at her IMDB page or her website: www.nancysoulliard.com.

Q: Nancy, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?

A: My minor in college was in Theatre and I always loved acting. My husband was also an actor and always wanted to create his own film since so many of the projects he was involved in never saw the light of day. This was his opportunity to see his vision through to the end. Since I had prior acting experience, I fit well into the script. I also was able to do any of the graphic design needed to promote the film.

Q: Would you please explain your acting role in "The Creek."

A: I played Elise. She was the snobby character who everyone loves to hate.

Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.

A: "The Creek" is a low-budget horror film. Sometimes I think reviewers compare it to bigger budget films that are out there and "The Creek" is in a different league from them. It’s got a great story with strong characterizations that leans more heavily towards a thriller than a blood and guts gory film. "The Creek" is for a more mainstream audience that can appreciate the nuances and obstacles of low-budget filmmaking and are looking for more of a story in their choice of horror film.

Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?

A: My death scene. It was colder than expected. As the “blood” was poured over me, it pooled beneath my back as I laid on the ground. Between takes I was shivering uncontrollably. Thankfully Sandy, our make-up artist, would bring towels warmed by the fire which helped warm me up. I also got a lovely necklace of poison ivy as a result of filming this scene.

Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work the way you thought it could?

A: The shoot was well organized. I knew from the start that it would work because I knew how committed Erik was to it. That thought was solidified when I saw the first cut.

Q: I see that you’ve also done some theatre in the past? Can you tell me a little about where we may have seen you?

A: It’s been awhile since I was on stage. This film, my horse, artwork and now my new son have taken precedence over theatre the past few years I’d say.

Q: You also have a website dedicated to your artwork, am I right? Where can people find your site and what will they experience when they visit?

A: My website, www.nancysoulliard.com, is to show and promote my art and design work. I paint mostly horses and the human form and my styles vary from realistic watercolors to abstract pastels. The watercolors are mostly of horses which I’ve been passionate about my entire life. There’s also a page dedicated to my graphic design work which is my bread and butter you could say.

Q: What's next for you? Can you tell me what you have going on in 2009?

A: We’re in pre-production on 12 Bells, our next horror feature. I also have some art shows coming up in 2009. This year we had our first child in January. So I’m also navigating the adventure of raising a little boy.

Q: If you and I were to talk 1 year from today, what do you think would be on your plate at that time?

A:Hopefully we’ll be either in production or post-production of 12 Bells. Likely I’ll still be painting and have some art shows coming up. And I’m sure I’ll be chasing after the wee boy quite a bit then too.

Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?

A: Contrary to what Erik may say, my friends assure me I wasn’t typecast as Elise. :) Since most people that know me know of my horse addiction, some may not know my favorite car is a sky blue 67 Beetle with shiny chrome bumpers.

Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?

A: I just watched Shallow Ground on Sci-Fi. They have some odd horror films on there. It’s a good place to find some interesting spooky movies. Not sure Shallow Ground would be worth watching again though. The Wyvern was muuuuch better.

Q: Thank you very much for doing this.

A: Thank you very much for asking!
