Jaws 4: The Revenge (1987)

Ellen Brody has just lost her son, Sean, to a shark attack and doesn’t think she can deal with any shark’s effect on her life anymore. She takes her son, Michael’s, suggestion that she accompany him back to Bahamas, far away from any great white sharks. Needless to say, the shark does show up and is looking to finish off the Brody family off, once and for all.

Overall: This is clearly one of the worst films in history and frankly, I could write more than what I have but I just hate to pile on. Let me point out a few “flaws.” Sharks have no human emotions so it can’t hate anyone, can’t recognize the difference between one person and any other. It can’t roar. It can’t float on the surface of the water or use its tail to lift itself 10 feet out of the water. It won’t blow up without explosives being used, let alone magically explode simply by being punctured with a piece of wood. It can’t simply leave cold waters, swim 3000 miles into warm waters and then beat an airplane from New York to the Bahamas. And that’s just the plot “flaws.” If you watch the film, the shark looks fake and then in some scenes you will see the mechanical parts of the shark too. Ellen Brody has flashbacks and reminisces to scenes she was never in and therefore couldn’t have remembered doing things she wasn’t there to do.

Really, this is a sad film. It has Michael Caine in a bad film in a bad role. No reason to make a 4th film and clearly a shark cannot seek revenge...and why would he...didn’t he die in part 1 or 2 or 3? And he is taking revenge upon people he’s never seen previously for his relatives dying due to the Brody’s? That’s never explained. And this film clearly contradicts part 3 anyway in terms of what the whole family is up to and who people are married to. Frankly this film is just a mess and really is pathetic. Just an effort to make an extra buck. A shark seeking revenge and swimming thousands of miles to do so…
