Roger is a writer who is going through some hard times. His son is missing, and his Hollywood actress, wife divorces him. His writing career has been in a slump and the next book he wants to write is a about his experiences in Vietnam. Then, his aunt Elizabeth commits suicide by hanging herself in the house which she has given to him in her will. So he goes to take over the house, and all the demons in his life are gonna haunt him. He may not make it out of the house alive!
Overall: When I was 13, this was a scary film. The creatures were all just realistic enough to just but the chills down your spine. Almost 20 years later, the film isn’t exactly that scary anymore but instead rates highly on the “silly” scale. The film isn’t always taking itself seriously and at times it can be amusing, other times is annoying. When you realize exactly what has happened to Roger, his kid and the house...you can see some of the plot problems: Is this all revenge on Roger or the house just manifests ones own demons, regardless of who/what they are? The songs further put this film into the silly category but hey, at least they are original. It’s worth a viewing, if only to see veterans of the tv shows: Greatest American Hero, Cheers, Night Court. Comparison: Poltergeist meets Evil Dead |
