Real-estate agent Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania to complete a property sale for the Count. But Dracula backstabs his new client and ends up drinking Jonathan's blood, then leaving him locked in his castle while he departs for Harker's hometown of Wismar. As the town succumbs to a plague, Dracula drinks the life out of the townspeople, literally. Meanwhile he meets with Jonathan's wife Lucy, whom Dracula decides to make his own!
Overall: It’s basically a re-make or homage to the original film “Nosferatu” and has many a shot and more directly, the same atmosphere as the silent film. The film is low on dialogue and high on acting. Klaus Kinski puts in quite a fine performance and there’s definitely some nice cinematography. The film’s flaws are in the way the characters are portrayed. Van Helsing is some old man who makes little difference in life. Renfield is psycho-boss of Jonathan who doesn’t see any probs. Jonathan turns Evil and is ready to be the Count’s next apprentice. I admire the director for changing things up, but that doesn’t make the film good. Except for Klaus Kinski’s performance, the film could be ignored. Comparison: Club Dread meets Bram Stoker’s Dracula |
