Maury is trying to get his freshman year in college on the right track. But he seems to be attracting the wrong kind of acquaintances who are gonna use him as their own personal play toy. Maury however has found a friend in Lara, who happens to also be friend with the bullies. One day…the bullies are gonna “get theirs” and Maury works a deal to rid himself of anything that stands in his way of the beautiful girl. Problem is…what must he give up in exchange?
Overall: Despite it’s low budget-ness, this film definitely has a lot going for it. Primary in this film is the cast, all of whom are quite talented. One problem that typically plagues low budget films is a weak cast. However, director Zack Parker got some very talented individuals into the complex roles that fill out his film. Gotta love the character of Maury and the portrayal of the character, which the camera angles attest to. Zack uses some long continuous shots in the movie, which further provide opportunities to see good acting at work. The bottom line for the film is that this is the loner/geek’s dream film. We have a quiet individual who might be too shy to do much with his life and fight those who seek to disrespect him, finally stand up and say “No More.” Once he stands up, he finally gets the girl and the respect he desires. The twist is how he accomplishes both of those goals. No question, the director has an eye for talent and we need to see more of what Mr. Parker has to offer. Comparison: The Contract meets Bruiser |
