Phone (2002)

Ji-Won is being harassed ever since she finished breaking a story about a local sex scandal. But the attention she is involuntarily receiving is so bad she changes her cell phone number and moves into a friend’s vacant house. But life gets very interesting once that friend’s child, Young-Ju, picks up Ji-Won’s phone and hears a very scary creepy voice. From then on, no one will be the same until Ji-Won’s uses her investigative skills to find the truth….even if it kills her.

Overall: I liked the film despite its similarities to both “Ringu” and “Ju-On.” It had some good ideas to it even though the plot got really confusing with all the assorted characters and names they toss in there. I’d almost suggest placing a pad of paper and a pen next to you when watching….just in case. It’s a good film but the number one reason to catch this film is the little girl. Excellent, excellent job. Very vivid performance and quite scary. If anything, you will come out wondering what sort of lifetime damage is done to her psyche by playing such a role. And there’s even a scene where her characters falls down the stairs, on purpose. It’s not for the faint of heart for sure. Very good film with a good ending to it but if anything, they should have simplified the story more.
