Two ladies looking for a ride out of Gibraltar and on to the Caribbean find a washed-up drunk ship boat captain looking for an excuse to leave. However 4 weeks journey isn’t as easy as it seems and cabin fever may just set in. And it won’t be pretty.
Overall: Only one reason anyone is watching this film and it’s because of the appearance of Elizabeth Hurley. And even then, it’s because of her outfits or lack thereof that has you even watching this film. She never wears any bras so she’s bobbling all over the place for 100 minutes. You can tell that she really got cleaned up and worked on before the Estee Lauder prominence. There’s no acting ability whatsoever in this film and the story is even worse. It tries to give you the impression the skipper is a drugged out murderer but when you find out the truth, you’re gonna be groaning. As for the ending, let me quote other viewers for the film: “blindside ending,” “wondering what in the world just happened,” “any film that relies on captions for its finale is in big trouble,” “this one comes completely out of left field,” “simply no logical reason presented,” “didn't really make sense,” “final plot twist which makes absolutely no sense,” and “ending spoiled the whole picture.” Frankly, if you need an ending to make or break this film, you watched it for the wrong reasons. Notice Hurley’s striptease 14 min in, the plethora of times her shirt isn’t exactly on correctly or unbuttoned too far (good or bad depending). Patsy Kensit was looking really good, if not a teeny bit thin, at times. I will say that there are some shots where basically the director was going for “T&A.” Notice the angle when Prochnow pulls Kenzit out of the water as Hurley stands behind him, in front of the camera, which is aimed upward, as she stands there with nothing but underwear and the oversized shirt. As you finish this film, you would have though that 15 years later Patsy Kenzit would be the big star and Hurley would be home tending to her grandkids telling them of her one movie role. Whoa, did things change!!! And to prove it...take a look at the dvd covers above...only the 3rd one has Hurley looking as she did in this film...other 4 shots are of her since!
