Dr. Frankenstein has created another monster, a bride to go with his male creation. But the Doctor and monster have a falling out, leaving the Bride to move on up in upper-class London. Meanwhile the monster befriends a midget hoping to join a traveling circus. Once they join, the monster realizes everything he’s been missing meanwhile the Bride realizes she wants to know more about herself. Soon enough these two will meet again and the good Doctor might find himself, the odd man out.
Overall: When the film was made, it had some bankable star in an otherwise un-bankable film. Now 19 years later, there is no reason to catch this film. It’s got a good cast but Shelley’s novel has been so bastardized by this film, it’s just scary to see the absurdity. Circus midgets? Monster Bride learning how to be a good girl? Dr. Frankenstein completely forgets what’s he doing or how he got to where he is. His only concern becomes the bride, to the exclusion of the original monster and then lets her go off and find love elsewhere. It’s just not very good and fairly slow too. I’d say, “skip it.” Comparison: MTV's "The Real World" meets Frankenstein meets Wolfman |
