Victor Frankenstein thinks he can stop death and going to medical school will allow him to do precisely that. With the body of a murderer in his possession, Victor decides to recreate life but soon realizes what he has created is an abomination. Victor can’t stop the creature unless he gives up everything he has and he just may have to do that to save the world from the Monster.
Overall: This was a very dark and weird version of the novel and although I liked Robert DeNiro, the plot was just a little too thin on explanation. The pulley system was perfect example of what I mean. The plot is generally fine but the specifics or lack thereof was a real problem. After watching the whole pulley system, my first thought was “where the hell did he get all that stuff?” Then I wondered how he paid for it and then finally, wondered if there was a quicker, less dramatic way of doing everything. It’s the details of individual scenes that bugged me most including the fact that I didn’t buy the whole brother/sister love angel given how fast he forgot about her after earlier professing undying love and affection. It’s a decent film but just didn’t do enough. Comparison: Frankenstein meets Howard’s End |
