Alex is sent on a mission to find a new priest who is calling himself, The Sin-Eater. Seems this priest is absolving people of their sins without the slightest regret on behalf of the victim and The Church is none too happy. In fact anyone can be absolved of their sins, even if they don’t believe and that is blasphemy. But this Sin-Eater is looking for a replacement in his job because he’s been doing it entirely too long. Alex now must decide what he wants for himself and if he wants to remain in The Church or take it on.
Overall: Firstly let’s just say that a film can’t be taken seriously when the major part of the cast appeared in the comedy “A Knight’s Tale.” This film failed entirely for that reason. Secondly, the film fails because the essence of the film’s argument is only good Catholics can get into heaven unless the Sin-Eater gets to them. So therefore billions of people now have been damned by the film’s premise. Most people seeing this film will go to hell under this plotline. And what’s with the title. An Appropriate title would be “Sin-Eater” or “The Other” but this title is just not representative of the film at all. And what was the deal with the black-masked character…had that part not even been added, the story could have been better. Or maybe make that character the sin-eater but the film comes off as having multiple bad guys and it doesn’t work well. Who were the cohorts of the man in the black mask? How about the girl? Did they know who was behind the mask? Why did they serve him? And as for the Sin-Eater, what did they get from the deal with the other bad guy? More souls? More Sins? More silliness?
