Louis, a plantation owner in 1700s New Orleans, is a drunk who’s been devastated by the death of his wife and unborn son in the throes of childbirth. He spends his time gambling in seedy taverns and whining about his miserable life. But then he meets up with Lestat who turns Louis into a vampire like himself. But Louis is not convinced this new life is any different and wishes for death. They eventually turn a young girl into a vampire and that gives them something to care about but soon the 3 have a falling out and that when the friends become enemies and all will change.
Overall: I had a few problems with the story of the film in that the story speeds up, slows down, speeds up again. It’s not so much of just a story as it is almost an epic about Louis. Cruise did an awesome job and Pitt was fairly decent himself but the story never got as fully fleshed out as the book did. The story is more just a brief summary of Louis’ life instead of trying to get a point or moral to it. It’s like window shopping without ever being allowed into the store to touch or purchase.
