Only in a world this shitty could you even try to say these were innocent people and keep a straight face. But that's the point. We see a deadly sin on every street corner, in every home, and we tolerate it. We tolerate it because it's common, it's trivial. We tolerate it morning, noon, and night. Well, not anymore. I'm setting the example. 2 NY cops are about to encounter a serial killer that seems unstoppable. Detective Somerset is days away from retirement and Detective Mills is his replacement in the unit. As they work together, the truth of what they are facing become alarmingly clear. This killer is looking to make a statement about society and he’s done a lot of work to prepare his scenes and the police may not have the time to catch the killer before he’s done making his statement. Overall: The best part of this film is the story and no doubt this probably has one of the best stories in horror film history. Masterful stuff all around including the modus operandi for the killer, the background everyone does on “why” the fact there is no true identification of who the killer is until he surrenders and even then the discussion by the killer of what eh was trying to accomplish. And of course there is more than enough background on the detectives to make this worthwhile. As for the deleted scenes the film would have gotten unnecessarily longer, including the beginning re: Somerset’s potential new house. Also the ending is different in regards to the emotional instability of Mills once he finds out what’s happened – it’s one shot, no quick flash of memory. Great film!
