Rosemary and her husband have moved into a new apartment building. Although the neighborhood may not be that safe, they find some really nice neighbors: Roman and Minnie. Soon enough, Rosemary’s husband begins to spend more time with them than her, and her pregnancy isn’t going as well as she hopes. Then she will realize all is not well in her world…and a few too many people are interested in her child’s well being.
Overall: The film is a really good and tight film but not very scary anymore. I’m not faulting it for failing to be scary but the film really is just drama with no true climax at any point. Basically we see the realization in very gradual terms of what is happening. It is a shocking film in what does take place and the secrecy surrounding everything. In 2003-04 with today’s “date-rape” drugs, this film easily happens I’m sure daily (although without the “devilish” result) but the fact that the film lets the viewer just watch this but doesn’t try to shock you with it’s magnitude, is what is so shocking., We just take it in and then with the ending, wonder why we weren’t more shocked and even then go “well if she’s ok with it…”. Good film and if anything this film really sets up the next 3 decades in religious horror films. Comparison: The Omen meets Gossip |
