Chuck and Ferdie are working at their gas station, when they get accidentally trapped in the car of mobster Moose Matson during a chase as the police pursue him. Moose is shot and just before he dies he gives the two a title paper that entitles them to his fortune as a reward for being with him at death. They head to a mansion where Moose’s loot is reputedly stashed but with them are some stranded travelers who accompanied them on the trip. Soon everyone will realize the house is haunted and even if they found the money, they may not live through the night.
Overall: This is a relatively funny film that has some really good laughs and routines although it fails in producing any actual ghosts. The jokes in the film though are done even better in the “Monster” movies they appeared in years later. I was a bit annoyed with “Ted Lewis” since I’m not very well aware of who he is…but he didn’t impress me. I enjoyed the Andrew Sisters, still wondering how Laverne ever made it if it wasn’t for Patty (the blonde). I mean seriously…Patty is hell of a lot better looking. Bottom line though, the 3 can sing. But better songs exist in “Buck privates” and “In the Navy.” What makes the film work is Costello’s antics acting scared. That’s the film right there and the true art of both acting and comedy.
