Friday the 13th Part 3: 3D (1982)

- written November 1999

We view the scenes of the end of part 2 with Ginny finishing Jason off. Jason is carted off in an ambulance and Ginny taken to the hospital. Jason escapes from the ambulance and seeks to return to the Camp and face whomever is there. He meets up first with a couple running a bait shop and then finally visits with 8 young adults spending time on the lake. The 8 are on their way of a nice relaxing weekend of water and sex. But when they reach town, a small group of 3 troublemakers are there to greet them. Soon the 2 groups slowly begin trench warfare and Jason steps in on the fun. Chris is the leader of the good group since the house is hers and used to be daddy's. As the others are slowly killed off she emerges as the only one who can stand up to Jason. But he's not willing to give in yet and the battle ensues. Will Chris make it safely or will Jason finish off more "lake lovers?"

Overall: The film was originally in 3D so there are lots of scenes that are characteristic of 3D films. One interesting tidbit is that at the beginning of part 2, Jason avenges his mother's killing but makes no attempt to do so here in regards to the attempt on his life. In addition, no characters here actually know of Jason at all, with Chris only having an experience with a deformed man - the film tries to connect him with Jason but never uses Jason's name nor are the events at Camp Blood ever mentioned here. But we continue to see the humanity in Jason's appearance as he is very active and again has scenes showing his arms and hands. We even get a quick glimpse of Mrs. Voorhees at the end trying to grab Alice in the lake (reminiscent of part 1's ending). Overall it's an interesting slasher film but not as good as part 2. Death Count = 12

My Title: Friday the 13th Part 3: Jason Lives On

02/05/2009: So I've seen the movie more than a few times, including owning the original box set. However this is the new Deluxe Edition DVD. I would have liked to have a commentary track here considering the first film's "Uncut DVD" had one. What makes the first 6 films so unique is that there was a new actor playing Jason every time. So that would make for new stories, new experiences.

As for the extras for the disc, there isn't any. The first 2 films had lots of extras and interviews and documentaries. This one is, alas, bare.

However what the DVD's point is...is to give us both a 2D and 3D versions. And we get a pair of 3D glasses so we can watch with a loved one. And I did so. I will say that although I think to watch the film in 3D is recommended, I will advise to think about it when considering what tv/dvd equipment you have. I have both a HD flat screen tv and an HD DVD player, so it worked pretty well. Not perfect as if you had seen it live, but prob pretty close. Some of the scenes were just obviously outstanding in this format. If you have a flat screen and HD equipment, then worth the purchases.
