Morgan is a football player just looking to have some fun hunting with his buddies. But this weekend is gonna be the worst weekend of their lives as a mysterious liquid has appeared in the mountains and the local wildlife is eating from it. Seems this liquid causes ordinary creatures to grow to tremendous sizes and now they have a blood lust and only humans can satisfy their needs.
Overall: I think this film may have some of the worst effects in modern horror history. Granted the effects are better than the creatures from the 1950’s films as these are a tinge more realistic but given that, the effects are still pretty bad. I do think that they did try fairly hard and probably couldn’t have done much better for the time period. But as we’ve seen with “Eight Legged Freaks,” clearly you can do better nowadays. In comparison to the H.G. Wells novel, this film takes the basic die of a food given to animals and grabs the title for production value. However the book and this movie are quite different. In the book, a pair of scientists create this serum to give to the animals to see what they can do. Eventually the serum is given to people and the world reacts with “anti-boomfood laws” and such. The book takes this well beyond the film ever could have and if anything, the book I think is just a warning as to what scientists were trying to do in lat 1800’s to improve society. This film hints that maybe all the pollution and damage we do to our atmosphere could create this “food.” Either way I think we’ve done a lot in 100 years and so far, no “food of the gods” has appeared or likely to ever appear. You should get a big kick out of the large chicken early on and oh by the way, those are just paint pellets hitting the rats...although looks convincing enough.
