A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)

It is 6 years after the original events on Elm St. and still Nancy knows that not all is well. Kristin is in one of the houses and is battling Freddy with every step and trying to stay awake and alive long enough to win out, but all her friends are not so lucky. When she is finally placed in an asylum by her family, she meets up with Kristin who is there as a Medical intern. The hospital seems to have a lot of sleeping disorder problems that are coupled with rantings of dream demons and Nancy is the only worker who has a chance to stop it. But the hospital doesn't understand as much as they should and they cause the patients to be a lot more tired than they should be, especially with Freddy waiting for them. Now begins one last chance for Nancy to save her neighborhood.

Overall: Film is obviously weaker than the prior films but does boast the best cast: Jennifer Rubin (Screamers), Lawrence Fishburne, and Patricia Arquette. They give Freddy's story as such: Mom was left inside a mental institution and raped by the inmates and Freddy is the son so conceived. He turned out to be a child killer who was burned alive by the neighbors on Elm St. - parents of the children. The confusion with this series is that if Freddy can only kill kids in dreams, then why so often does he appear when they are awake. You can go with the door to another world idea and that when a kid sleeps, the door opens. But how can just any kid in the city open it by sleeping, but no others can't? And how can one kid sleeping really affect the whole city so much. Either keep Freddy in the dreams or put him into the real world - but pick a hunting ground.

Comparison: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest meets Road House
