Anaconda (1997)

          A film crew looking for some lost Amazonian tribe finds a lost fisherman and the snake he’s looking to catch. The fisherman will use anything he can to catch the snake for the profits and the film crew is just looking forward to not getting eaten. But 1 by 1, this snake will hunt them down and they’ll have to decide whether to trust the fisherman or trust the snake.


          Overall: This film is pretty much known as having J’Lo’s best acting performance. In this film it isn’t about her body, her ass or her singing – it is about her pretending to be a Hollywood filmmaker. She’s got a nice supporting group around her (I mean actors) but Jon Voight is poorly cast – we know he’s got no accent and he’s not a very good actor either. Excluding his poor performance and the fact Eric Stolz vanishes from most of the film, Ice Cube can act like himself while Owen Wilson pretends he’s auditioning for “Shanghai Noon.” I do think this is probably the best snake film out there and one of the better technological attempts of doing mutant animals. It might have been better though to have had more of the lost Amazonian tribe involved earlier on as perhaps their saving grace.

         2/2/09 In case you thought this movie may have been a little too "far-fetched," then check this out.

         and I loved this actual quote by one of the founding scientists:
"Truly enormous snakes really spark people's imagination, but reality has exceeded the fantasies of Hollywood. The snake that tried to eat Jennifer Lopez in the movie Anaconda is not as big as the one we found."
